About Dr. Barzvi
Dr. Alex Barzvi is a licensed clinical psychologist and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Barzvi is the founder of Madison Psychology, PLLC, a Private Practice on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She is affiliated with the NYU Child Study Center where she formerly served as the Clinical Director of the Anita Saltz Institute for Anxiety and Mood Disorders. She is the co-host of About Our Kids on Sirius Doctor Radio, which airs live every Friday morning from 8am-10am on Sirius 114 and XM 119. Dr. Barzvi is also Co-Founder of SeedlingsGroup, where she is an Independent Consultant. All clinical services for SeedlingsGroup are provided by Dr. Barzvi in her independent private practice.
Dr Barzvi has expertise in evaluating and treating anxiety, mood and behavior disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. She is an expert in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and her areas of special interest include Depression, Anxiety (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Separation Anxiety, Social Phobia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and PTSD), Divorce, Grief and Loss. Dr. Barzvi also spends a majority of her time coaching parents through the many challenges of parenting, including the use of effective discipline, how to stay calm and consistent, how to promote respect within the family, and how to advocate for the educational needs of your child. Dr. Barzvi helps parents with everything from everyday challenges to more difficult problems including lying, cheating, drug and alcohol abuse, sibling rivalry, temper tantrums, and school refusal. Dr. Barzvi is certified in Parent Management Training from the Yale Parenting Center.
Dr. Barzvi is committed to the promotion of children’s mental health and positive parenting, and devotes a great deal of her time to conducting lectures, workshops and seminars to educate parents, communities, school personnel and other mental health professionals about the needs of a child.
Dr. Barzvi is the co-author of “Who Invented Lemonade?”, a motivational story that provides the tools you need to think positively, change your perspective, and ultimately live life to the fullest.
Dr. Barzvi frequently appears on local and national television talk shows and news shows including The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, WNBC’s Live at 5, MSNBC, and the Hallmark Channel: New Mornings. She has also been quoted in a wide variety of popular magazines and newspapers including W Magazine, USA Weekend, Women’s World, The Associated Press, Child Magazine, Parents Magazine, Youth Magazine, Esperanza Magazine, Redbook, Education Update and Nick Jr. Family Magazine.
Through her teaching, public speaking engagements, television and radio appearances, and writing, she has been dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Barzvi is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
Dr. Barzvi earned her Ph. D. from the University of Connecticut. She completed her internship training at Bellevue
Hospital and the NYU Medical Center, and received her B.A. in psychology from New York University.
